Two Victims Revealed in the Providence Campus Incident as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in Saturday’s tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their assailant continued following the discharge by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed words of sorrow publicly, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

His name was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine other people were hurt in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a search at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.

The gunman discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source informed the media outlet.

Officers that entered the hotel seized two firearms and magazines when the individual was detained, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, one student was discharged from care, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

The weekend's murders at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in 2025, according to statistics.
