A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, according to reports.

"It is alleged the man was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," authorities confirmed.

CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocks and clad in what looked like a security uniform firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Key evidence, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

"I am devastated. I don't have words," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were ready to discuss. This is a devastating blow."

She urged the public to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that aired on a popular local TV network.

In addition to his media career, Stock was active in various commercial activities, including protective services, offering VIP protection services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

In a communication, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will endure".
