Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, worried it could intensify unhelpful debate and deepen rifts throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about supporting conservative and liberal contenders throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and explaining she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “as I think she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.”
Celebrity Views
Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her rejection of the former president as a presidential contender, but the limited influence public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years seems distinct,” noted she of his administration. “Since he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. At a press conference for the movie in the film festival, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a genocide and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discussions of American politics right now and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
The actor aimed to shift anger about the issue to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she said, which was interpreted as a reference to the recent commitment endorsed by numerous arts community members to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her role in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, the actress said that she identified with parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her youngest child, not long after filming concluded.
“It was fear about my child,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a medication called that medicine and I took it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the film while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
