Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
