Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot other than Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their performance in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
