Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced after a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of artists appearing on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The track showcases a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the region was noted for its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The song is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
